What is the best way for me to dye my hair underneath my top layer?

i have been meaning to dye my hair underneath my top layer.but i have been thinking if i should go to a Professional,do it myself,or let a friend do it for me.

i also don't want to really ruin my hair..so what would be the safest but bestest way to do this?!What is the best way for me to dye my hair underneath my top layer?
GO to a hairdresser! I got mine done like that last year by a hairdresser, when the color started fading and I needed touch ups I did those myself because I could just follow the spots she colored it the 1st time. section your hair into two sections....the top, which you will tie up and out of the way and the bottom where you want the dark hair to start. Cover the root area of the top layer with conditioner or something that will keep the color OFF where you dont want it to be. then just color it the way you would if you were just doing your whole head, only just do where you want it done. I would have a friend help you since its the back of your head and you dont want to make a complete mess.
If your color now is blonde all over, then yeah u can tint the bottom yourself and it saves u money. Just go to Sally's Beauty Supply store and get whatever brown shade you like and divide your section starting from the top of one ear straight across to the other side of the top ear and clip the top section up and just tint the bottom section. And there u go. But if your hair isn't blonde and i would suggest to to a salon and let them do it for you. Cuz then you'll have to bleach the top section and color the bottom section too.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but you can have a friend do it for you very easily. Buy a semi permanent hair color in a gold or warm tone. Like a 4g or 5g. It won't ruin your hair because semi permanent has no peroxide in it. Then have your friend section your hair just below ear level and put the darker color on for about 20 min. Just be careful.
ive been dying my own hair since i was eleven.i even bleach it and ive never had a problem and my hair is really healthy. just pin up the top, and get some brown dye, clairol is really good. and have a friend put the brown dye on the bottom. and let it sit for the time in the directions.
