I think they get paid $1000 everytime they say it!!!Is ';Marine Layer'; the most overused phrase by commentators EVER??
yeah. thank god someone else is outraged. i guarantee Letterman and Leno will have a laugh about it later. Is ';Marine Layer'; the most overused phrase by commentators EVER??
After all, If the network is going to invest a lot of dollars to show the tournament, the broadcaster has to fill air time with menusha, trivia, what have you to fill in the dull moments. So why not borrow from the weather gurus for '; Marine layer'; is a lot more impressive than '; fog';. We had a CA trip where we couldn't get to Hearst Castle due to a fog bank which blanketed the area. Had to wait a good hour for it to clear.
Yeah... all of the commentators have graduated from ';fog'; and have followed the suit of tv weathermen who say ';marine layer'; or ';low clouds';.
Here's when I would say it...
At the start... ';Well folks welcome to Torrey Pines where the greens are firm, rough long, and scoring difficult as per the norm at a US Open. The weather today will be partly sunny with a fog rolling off the coast in the afternoon with a high of 65.'
DONE... I think they should bleep it out every time they say it.
It may be... but if you lived out here (I'm guessing you don't) you'd know it's real.
I live 3 miles inland in LA and left my house in blue skies and 80 plus degrees and went for a walk on the beach, where it was gray and breezy and low 70's with no sign of the sun.
